It’s construction season! As our runways are currently under construction be sure you review Displaced Thresholds and recall the correct procedures.
Due to construction our runway length, taxi instructions, and landing thresholds all have the potential to change regularly. Remember to check the notams!
A displaced threshold is when a runway is marked with chevrons, this area is available for taxing, takeoff and landing rollout from the opposite direction. As our displaced threshold is temporary the displacement is marked not with chevrons but instead with flags, cones, wingbar lights. A typical displaced threshold looks this this:
Please do not fly low over our friends working on the runway. This is a great time to practice those obstacle clearance approaches!
A stopway is also marked with chevrons but is very different from a displaced threshold. Stopways are NOT available for taxiing, takeoff or landing and are marked with yellow chevrons when length exceeds 60m:
